A war injury made it difficult for Hans Haupt to carry both a walking stick and an umbrella at the same time. Driven by this personal challenge, he began to search for a solution.
The result?
It fit perfectly in his pocket and was always ready when it rained!
Being so small, it was naturally referred to as a tiny “little guy” – a small child – and that’s exactly where the name Knirps® comes from, as “Knirps” means “little one” in German.
In 1928, the company Bremshey & Co recognized the amazing potential of this innovative product and helped to produce the first commercial versions of the pocket umbrella.
Innovative materials and bold designs made each model unique.
Knirps® set the standard for how umbrellas should look and function.
In 1965, the first automatic telescopic umbrella was introduced.
Then in 2004, Knirps launched the X1 series, the smallest Knirps® models of all time.
